“Annabelle Broom, The Unhappy Witch” is a whimsical musical that delves into the life of Annabelle Broom, a nonconformist witch residing in the land of Spookville. Unlike her peers who take pride in their wickedness, Annabelle prefers a life filled with color and kindness, much to the chagrin of her fellow witches. Her unconventional ways bring her into constant conflict with the others at the Witch Academy, where conformity to the dark and dreary is the norm. Her refusal to scare humans and her penchant for dressing in vibrant clothes instead of the traditional black attire leads to her facing the possibility of expulsion. Faced with the challenge of proving her worth, Annabelle embarks on a quest to find her true self, questioning whether she must change to fit in or embrace her uniqueness.
The musical follows Annabelle as she ventures into the human world and befriends two young children, Ellie and Max, who are initially frightened by her appearance but soon realize her gentle nature. Through a series of heartwarming and humorous interactions, Annabelle teaches them about acceptance and looking beyond outward appearances. Meanwhile, the Witch Council watches her closely, determined to pull her back to the ways of their world. In her journey of self-discovery, Annabelle must make the tough decision between staying true to herself or conforming to the expectations of her witch community.
