ABOUT

“Just So,” a musical inspired by Rudyard Kipling’s “Just So Stories,” is an enchanting musical adventure that delves into the origins of the world’s wild creatures. The story follows the Elephant’s Child, whose insatiable curiosity leads him on a quest to stop the disruptive antics of the crab who plays with the ocean, threatening the lives of all the animals. Alongside the Kolokolo Bird as a guide, the Elephant’s Child embarks on a journey that takes them from the banks of the Limpopo River to the shores of the great, green Greasy Limpopo River, encountering a host of colorful characters including the crafty Zebra, the stalwart Giraffe, and the cunning Leopard.

As the Elephant’s Child and the Kolokolo Bird travel, they face various challenges and puzzles posed by the jungle’s denizens, each of which teaches a lesson about cooperation, respect, and the value of questioning and understanding. Through their adventures, the young elephant learns the importance of stories and the power they hold in explaining the unknown and bringing diverse creatures together. In the climax, the Elephant’s Child uses his newfound knowledge and friendships to confront the crab and bring balance back to the jungle. The musical weaves vibrant storytelling with lively music and whimsical lyrics, leaving audiences reflecting on the beauty of nature and the importance of curiosity and empathy.
