The French fairytale follows a young woman forced to be a servant in her own home by her wicked stepmother and cruel stepsisters.
Rodgers & Hammerstein wrote this classic for a CBS television broadcast in 1957. The original broadcast featured Julie Andrews in the lead role. Cinderella is the only Rodgers and Hammerstein musical written for television.
The musical has been adapted for the stage in a number of versions, including a London West End pantomime adaptation, a New York City Opera production, and various touring productions. A 2013 adaptation on Broadway starred Laura Osnes and Santino Fontana, with a new book by Douglas Carter Beane. ABC also adapted the show for television in 1997. The Enchanted Edition featured Brandy and Whitney Houston.
