Based on the classic 80’s film starring Kevin Bacon, this rockin’ musical celebrates the exhilaration of youth and the power of forgiveness. Ren McCormack is a regular kid from Chicago who moves to a small town called Bomont. Still healing from his parents’ divorce, Ren finds comfort in dancing. However, he is shocked when he learns that dancing is illegal in Bomont. Together with his friends Willard, Ariel, and Rusty, Ren challenges the small town’s traditions through the power of music.
Tom Snow wrote the music for the show, with lyrics by Dean Pitchford and Kenny Loggins. The book was written by Dean Pitchford and Walter Bobbie. The orchestration is in rock combo style and features dynamic new songs that augment the hits from the film. The show received 4 Tony nominations in 1999. This 90-minute adaptation retains all the characters from the original.
