A Bronx Tale: High School Edition

ABOUT

A Bronx Tale is a musical adapted from Chazz Palminteri’s one-man show and the film of the same name. With a book by Palminteri, music by Alan Menken, and lyrics by Glenn Slater, the musical opened on Broadway in 2016. Set in the 1960s, it follows the coming-of-age journey of Calogero, a young boy from the Bronx, who faces a tough choice between the guidance of his honest, hardworking father and the allure of a charming mob boss named Sonny. The story delves into themes of loyalty, family, and the decisions that shape our lives, all within a lively and diverse Italian-American neighborhood.

The musical received praise for its captivating storytelling, catchy music, and strong performances. Directed by Robert De Niro and Jerry Zaks, the show captures the heart of Palminteri’s original story while adding the excitement and emotion of live theater. The songs, composed by Menken, blend 1960s rock, doo-wop, and classic Broadway styles, creating a nostalgic yet timeless atmosphere. A Bronx Tale connects with audiences through its realistic depiction of life’s challenges and the universal struggle to find one’s way amid conflicting influences.
