ROCS|Player Rebrand and Limited Access

ROCS|Player Rebrand

We are rebranding our Stage|Tracks Mobile app, also known as Stage|Tracks Lite, to ROCS|Player. This change addresses significant customer confusion caused by having two distinct applications with similar names. Many users expected the mobile app to have the same functionality as the desktop app, which is not the case. By renaming Stage|Tracks Mobile to ROCS|Player, we aim to clarify their differences and eliminate this misunderstanding.

Why Stage|Tracks Is Not Available on Mobile

Many people wonder why there isn’t a mobile application for Stage|Tracks, especially since there is both a desktop and mobile version of Show|Ready. The simple answer is that Stage|Tracks is a highly complex and resource-intensive application. Making edits in Stage|Tracks requires the substantial computing power of a desktop or laptop. Whereas, Show|Ready utilizes MIDI instruments that are built into your phone or tablet’s operating system, making it a simpler, more lightweight tool that can easily run on a mobile device.

Limiting Access to ROCS|Player

ROCS|Player (formerly Stage|Tracks Mobile) was originally developed to address the need for performance backing tracks. At the time, this application filled an important need for clients. However, as our software has advanced, offering greater flexibility and customization, we are limiting access to ROCS|Player to encourage clients to take full advantage of Stage|Tracks. This has to do with the following reasons:

  • This app has limited functionality. It is a basic media player with no other features.
  • There is no direct editing within the application (cuts, vamps, caesuras, etc.). All edits must be done in the desktop version of the app. When I want to submit my edits, I need to list the change log when I notify ROCS.
  • There are additional costs for edit submissions.
  • Edits are manually implemented by our production team and take 2 – 5 business days.

This means that unless you are doing a legacy show, you will not receive automatic access to ROCS|Player. The expectation is that you will perform your show using the Stage|Tracks desktop application, as there is no Stage|Tracks mobile application. While Stage|Tracks has a steeper learning curve due to its advanced capabilities, we have extensive plans to continue its development. Features planned for Stage|Tracks will not be available on ROCS|Player mobile app. To encourage our clients to embrace this cutting-edge technology, we are gradually reducing access to the outdated platform.
