It’s the roaring twenties – an age of reckless American decadence. When chorus girl Roxie Hart murders a faithless lover in Chicago, she convinces her husband, Amos, to take the rap. He turns on Roxie after discovering he’s been duped. Convicted and sent to death row, Roxie and another “Merry Murderess,” Velma Kelly, compete for attention in the headlines. They ultimately join forces in search of the “American Dream”: fame, fortune, and acquittal.
This sharp-edged satire features a dazzling score by John Kander, lyrics by Fred Ebb, and immortal staging by Bob Fosse. The Broadway revival holds the records for both the longest-running musical revival, and the longest-running American musical at over 7,500 performances. The 2002 film adaptation was also acclaimed, winning an Academy Award for Best Picture.
