ABOUT
Now. Here. This. (Flexible Version) is a one-act musical by Hunter Bell, Susan Blackwell, and Jeff Bowen, adapted to feature a flexible cast size and arrangement. Set in a natural history museum, the show uses exhibits as a springboard for a series of personal stories told through song and monologue. As the ensemble journeys through moments from their pasts—awkward childhood memories, personal awakenings, and everything in between—they reflect on what it means to live in the present. The title, inspired by a concept from Thomas Merton, reminds us to embrace the “now,” the “here,” and the “this” of our lives.
This flexible version preserves the heart and humor of the original while allowing schools, small theatres, and diverse groups to make the show their own. The cast can expand or contract as needed, with roles and stories easily distributed among performers. With its deeply personal themes and playful theatricality, Now. Here. This. encourages reflection, connection, and presence—making it as moving for the performers as it is for the audience.
