The Sound of Music is now available for our Show|Ready rehearsal software and Stage|Tracks performance tracks. This beloved classic from Rodgers & Hammerstein is set in Austria shortly before its takeover by Nazi Germany in 1938. Maria, a struggling nun, takes a job as governess of a large family. Her quirky personality wins the favor of the unruly von Trapp children. Captain von Trapp, their widowed father, soon falls in love with Maria. However, he is ordered to accept a commission in the German navy. Because he is fiercely opposed to Nazi rule, he and his family decide to flee Austria.
The show spawned such classics as “Edelweiss,” “My Favorite Things,” “Do-Re-Mi,” and the title song “The Sound of Music.” The show won five Tony Awards in 1959. Its beloved film adaptation, starring Julie Andrews and Christopher Plummer, won five Academy Awards in 1966.
