Show|Ready rehearsal software and Stage|Tracks performance tracks are now available for South Pacific! This classic from Rodgers & Hammerstein drew inspiration from James A. Michener’s award-winning book, Tales of the South Pacific. The plot centers on an American nurse stationed in the South Pacific during World War II. While there, she falls in love with a local plantation owner. However, she experiences conflict with her upbringing as she struggles to accept his mixed-race children. Meanwhile, a United States Marine falls in love with a Tonkinese woman, and he fears the social fall-out from marrying his Asian love.
The original production was a critical and commercial success. It won ten Tony Awards and spawned classic musical numbers like, “There Is Nothing Like a Dame” and “Some Enchanted Evening.” The 2008 Broadway revival, also a critical success, ran for 996 performances and won seven Tonys, including Best Musical Revival. Its strong, progressive message about racism is still relevant today.
