ABOUT
Little House on the Prairie, the musical, is based on the beloved “Little House” book series by Laura Ingalls Wilder. It follows the Ingalls family as they leave the familiar woods of Wisconsin and journey westward to the unsettled prairies of Kansas and later South Dakota. Through challenges like harsh winters, prairie fires, and shifting friendships, young Laura grows from a spirited girl into a strong young woman. The musical highlights themes of perseverance, family bonds, and the search for home, all underscored by a rich, heartfelt score by Rachel Portman with lyrics by Donna Di Novelli.
The story centers particularly on Laura’s coming-of-age journey, her struggles to adapt to change, and her fierce love for her family, especially her sister Mary, who faces life-changing adversity. As Laura matures, she begins to understand the complexity of adulthood and responsibility, culminating in her own dreams of becoming a teacher and building a life of her own. With sweeping musical numbers and frontier spirit, Little House on the Prairie captures both the hardship and hope of pioneering life in America.
