Show|Ready rehearsal software and Stage|Tracks performance tracks are now available! In Oklahoma Territory in the 1900’s, cowboy Curly McLain and the menacing farmhand Jud Fry have a bitter rivalry. Both are in love with farmgirl Laurey Williams and vie for her affection. Meanwhile, Laurey’s friend, Ado Annie, embarks on comical exploits with the hapless Will Parker. The story paints a picture of a time when Oklahoma sought statehood, and cattlemen and farmers couldn’t see eye to eye.
This show was Rodgers and Hammerstein’s first collaboration. It set the standards and rules of modern musical theatre: the “book musical” fully integrated songs and dances into a serious story and used musical themes to invoke genuine emotion. The original Broadway production opened in 1943 and was a smash hit, running for an unheard of 2,212 performances. Its 1955 film adaptation won two Oscars. Rodgers and Hammerstein won a special Pulitzer Prize for Oklahoma! in 1944.
