ABOUT
Water for Elephants: High School Edition is a stage musical adaptation of Sara Gruen’s bestselling novel, tailored for younger performers. The story follows Jacob Jankowski, a young man who loses everything during the Great Depression and impulsively joins a traveling circus. There, he discovers a world filled with both wonder and hardship—dazzling performers, breathtaking spectacles, and the harsh realities of survival on the road. Jacob soon finds himself caring for the animals, including Rosie, an elephant whose intelligence and heart transform the struggling circus.
As Jacob becomes more deeply involved, he also forms a bond with Marlena, the star performer and wife of August, the charismatic but abusive circus manager. Tensions rise as Jacob and Marlena’s connection grows, forcing them to make difficult choices about love, loyalty, and freedom. With themes of resilience, compassion, and the power of found family, Water for Elephants: High School Edition celebrates the magic of the circus while offering a story of hope and courage that speaks to audiences of all ages.
