ABOUT
Wild Heart is a contemporary pop-rock jukebox musical by playwright Chelsea Marcantel that reimagines the life of Joan of Arc for a modern audience. Set against the backdrop of the Hundred Years’ War, the story follows young Joan, a poor French teenager who begins receiving visions from saints and angels calling her to lead her country to freedom. Despite skepticism from her family, the French court, and military leaders, Joan embraces her destiny and sets out to unite a divided nation, inspiring others through her courage, determination, and unwavering belief that change is possible. The musical features songs by artists including P!nk, Kelly Clarkson, Melissa Etheridge, Weezer, and Andra Day, using contemporary anthems to highlight Joan’s journey from an ordinary village girl to a national hero.
As Joan gains the respect of soldiers and leaders alike, she leads France to a series of victories and becomes a symbol of hope for her people. However, her growing influence also attracts powerful enemies who seek to silence her. Even when faced with betrayal, imprisonment, and the threat of execution, Joan refuses to abandon her convictions. The musical ultimately celebrates resilience, identity, and the power of standing up for what is right, portraying Joan not only as a historical figure but as a timeless symbol of courage and empowerment. Through its energetic score and modern storytelling, Wild Heart presents Joan of Arc’s story as one of perseverance, self-belief, and fighting for freedom against overwhelming odds.
